13 Haunted Houses That Will Make You Wet Your Pants in 2007

It's Halloween season and you know what that means: time for what has become our annual 13 Best Haunted Houses list! There have been a few additions and subtractions from last years list , but, as always, each one has their own unique characteristics that make it a worthy haunt for even the most seasoned of haunted housers.

So let's get started with this year's list:

13. Haunted Overload - Exeter, New Hampshire

Haunted Overload haunted house is a haunted house that rivals any professional haunted house out there. The elaboration in detail is said to be uncanny and really gives this place a worthy reputation, not to mention the fact that half the proceeds are donated to help the animals of the New Hampshire SPCA. Expect a lot of chainsaws, lots of actors in costumes and fog that makes it virtually impossible to see what's gonna get you next. (Halloween)

12. USS Nightmare - Newport, Kentucky

Following the story of an ill-fated crew of sailors, The USS Nightmare is set upon a real river steamboat. Every quarter in the ship has its own haunted scene whether you are in the captain's quarters, the mess hall or what appears to be a room full of torture devices. Be prepared for a lot of scary looking baby dolls strewn about the boat as well. Even more frightening than the decorations is the knowledge that once you enter this boat, you've only have two ways out...the entrance plank or the icy ocean. (Halloween)

11. Reign of Terror - Thousand Oaks, California

Reign of Terror is one of those haunted houses that stays true to the idea of a haunted house—because it's actually house that is "haunted." Rather than give in to the idea of a huge warehouse or sprawling compounds of haunted mayhem, The Reign of Terror Haunted House keeps everything nervously compacted into one house, meaning that the terror is always right there in your face. And considering how elaborate some of their scenes are, that's not necessarily a good thing. (Halloween)

10. The Bates Motel - Glenn Mills, Pennsylvania

Not only does this attraction have a Haunted Hayride and a Corn Maze—both guaranteed to chill your bones—but it also has the titular Bates Motel which, as most of you know, is taken from the hotel in Alfred Hitchcock's disturbing film, Pyscho. This place has an insane budget, which means lots of amazing special effects, digital music and lights. They definitely impost an age limit here due to the intensity of all the attractions. Don't be surprised if you start calling for mommy (who should not be a skeleton in your basement, mind you). (Halloween)

9. Seven Floors of Hell - Cleveland, Ohio

Coming in at number 9 is the Seven Floors of Hell . The name alone will send shivers up your spine, yeah? The structure is massive and actually includes, as the name suggests, seven different haunted houses. It is said to be the longest linear walk-through of any haunted house. With a 1 million dollar budget, you can bet this haunted house is going to be fancy. The seven haunted houses have, among others, a haunted cemetery, Cellblock 13 (full of dead inmates), the bloody Butchers Block, and, of course, a haunted circus. So you're pretty much going to get every scary thing ever in this one place. Enjoy! (Halloween)

8. Realm of Darkness - Pontiac, Michigan

It's always fun when a haunted house offer interactive challenges for its customers, and Pontiac Michigan's Realm of Darkness offers just that. If you can make it through this haunted house, discover all the clues and find the elusive Wizard, you win double your admission! Besides getting a good fright along the way with great scenes and lots of people trying to scare you out of your wits, you could walk away with a few extra bucks in your pocket. (Halloween)

7. Shocktoberfest - Reading, Pennsylvania

Sporting a haunted prison, a 3D maze and probably the scariest hayride in the country, it's no surprise that Shocktoberfest is one of the most successful haunted houses around. Shocktoberfest is located on an abandoned industrial park that was once home to several large, corrupt institutions, namely the State Psychiatric Hospital and Willow Glen State Penitentiary. The haunted house uses this knowledge to their advantage and creates some of the most realistic and disturbing scenes and story lines of any haunted house in the country. (Halloween)

what the hell is a haunted

what the hell is a haunted hoochie???

The Hitchcock film is called

The Hitchcock film is called "Psycho," not "Bates Motel."

atl is the greatest once

atl is the greatest once again

Kansas City haunted houses

Kansas City has some awesome haunted houses too - check out "The Beast" and "The Edge of Hell."

Bates Motel

All your Bates Motel are belong to Psycho.

Ooops

Um, #11 Reign of terror will not make you wet your pants in 2007.  They did their last Halloween season in 2006.  They auctioned off the props last April.

I live in Atlanta, and I

I live in Atlanta, and I hear people talk about Netherworld all the time. I knew a guy who was a cast member there last year, and he said he was even scared sometimes..because it seemed so real. I have yet to go there, and it's doubtful I ever will. I'm a huge baby, and get scared easily. I hear this is one of the most amazing haunted houses, and it gets better every year. As they have 2 haunted houses, and each has a different theme each year. One being a little more scarier than the other.

If you're into this stuff, it's definitely a place to check out.

haunted hoochie

sounds like something i encountered with your mom

St. Louis

Just to inform everyone, Saint Louis is the best place to live .. AND they have one haunted house on this list and another that is just as scary that popped up this year. So... fuck off all you ATL fags. STL rules.

Oceans in Tennesee??

"Even more frightening than the decorations is the knowledge that once you enter this boat, you've only have two ways out...the entrance plank or the icy ocean."...............Wow, theres an Ocean in TN....thats news to me....and the rest of the world.

NH Haunted overload

I went to this haunted house last year, and while I CAN say that the guy that puts it on definitely puts a lot of effort into it, it doesnt deserve to be on this list... its little more than what you see in that picture, and a short walk through a 50' by 50' yard lined with cornstalks. Don't get me wrong, its great that the proceeds go to the SPCA, but #13 on the list? For the second year in a row? come on...

Headless horseman was good.

Headless horseman was good. but not that great, it was more halloween-y with teh masks and shit rather than scary. some others on the list look so much scarier.

Nightmare Haunted House

I haven't seen it on any lists yet because it's only in its 3rd year, but the Nightmare Haunted House in Lexington, Kentucky is probably the best I've ever been to.  It's huge, and apparently they have at least one person pee their pants a night, and tons of people who can't even make it all the way through.  Their website is www.2scary.com.  I can't wait to go again this year!

Yeah, and you're a retard,

Yeah, and you're a retard, not an idiot. Read the article "COMPLETELY" before you post a retarded comment. It's called the Bates Motel, that's the name of the attraction at the farm where there are 2 or 3 other attraction. That's why it says the titular attraction, Bates Motel, from the movie Psycho.

Retard

7 floors of hell.

Okay, seriously folks, The 7 floors of hell is not, and will never be scary, nor even remotely mediocre.

Their design centers solely on mazes, and not even good ones, either. That 1 million buget was spent on animatronics used on the *outside*. Picture a large room crammed with a chain link fence maze, a fog machine, and a little strobe light. There is your beloved first level of hell. Make another maze with a different wall; Toss in some clichés- like, ohhh...clowns and a red neck, add a few kids who go “hey” in a high-pitched, prepubescent voices with badly painted faces, and you have the other 6 floors. If this would make you piss yourself, then you either suffer from a bladder control problem, or are a surprisingly big pansy.

7 Floors of Hell

Who ever posted the previous comment , I would bet never even went inside of the haunted house!!!! To begin with because they probably wet their pants before they got out of their car ! ! ! ! !

Me and a few of my Kent State University ,yes that is right "KSU" Frat brothers decided to see if the 7 Floors of Hell was top notch like implied.

First of all the 7 houses are all completely different no one resembles the others in any way .

We give the 7 Floors of Hell 2 thumbs up !!!!!!!!!!! As BILL and TED would say "EXELLENT" ...........and we are going to bring the BABES this week.

They will wet their pants that is guaranteed !!!!!!!!!

Netherworld Haunted House, Atlanta, GA

We went on October 20 with three carloads of people. A lot of people! They herd you through the house and either the person in front of you or behind you gets the scare. Detailed sets and characters outside are the best. Two of our three cars got vandalized, windows broke, items stolen etc. Cops not nice and just went down the lot taking reports...about thirty breakins last Saturday! Go to Camp Blood in Carrolton or Sloss Furnace in Birmingham, AL.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!FRIGHT DOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GREAT TOP 5 THIS YEAR! EXCEPT FOR 1 FRIGHT DOME! LAST YEAR WAS ON LIST, BUT THIS YEAR NOT THERE? DARKNESS SHOULD BE #6, FRIGHT DOME SHOULD BE ON TOP 5 SOMEWHERE. BECAUSE FRIGHT DOME WAS MORE SCARY, MORE OVER THE TOP THEN DARKNESS WAS! PS: THANK GOD HAUNTED HOOCHIE WAS #2 BECAUSE IT WAS AS GOOD AS A HAUNT CAN GET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BAD ASSSSSSSSSS!

THE 13TH GATE

I MADE A Little mistake! The LOUISIANA NIGHTMARES HAUNTED HOUSE on the same site. WAS the HAUNTED house that was NOT open this year, NOT the 13th gate! It still does not deserve a #2 spot.

I went to haunted hoochie

I went to haunted hoochie this year and they decided to shut down the attraction for over 2 hours without telling anyone, and instead making us stand in line completely oblivious when it was 35 degrees outside. I didn't get to go in because I went numb and gave up. Not only that, but the "entertainers" were often standing around watching the show. I lost $15 just to be able to get out of there, and it was well worth it. The ticket people were rude, and the overall customer service was terrible. I realize its a haunted house, but I paid money to see something scary not stand outside for three hours. Rediculous!

HAUNTED HOOCHIE

WELL NEXT TIME BUY A VIP PASS FOR $25, GET IN RIGHT AWAY! YOU COULD HAVE PAYED $10 MORE FOR YOUR $15 TICKET, TRADE IT IN? THINK ABOUT IT? I WENT , BOUGHT A VIP, GOT RIGHT IN! I KNOW IF I DIDN'T I MITE NOT GET IN BECAUSE THE LINE WAS FROM THE FRONT DOOR TO THE BACK OF THE ROAD? THEY DON'T HAVE TO WAIT ALL DAMMMME NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HAUNTED HOOCHIE

I WENT TO HAUNTED HOOCHIE THIS YEAR!!!!!!!!! EVERYTHING! WAS VERY GOOD! THE TICKET PEOPLE WERE VERY HELPFUL, CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS VERY GOOD ALSO!!!! HAUNTED HOUSE WAS BADASS, ONE OF THE BEST I HAVE EVER BEEN TO! IGNORE THE NEGITIVE MESSAGE! THE ONLY REASON I SEE IS THE PERSON LEFT BECAUSE THEY WERE CLOSED, SHE CAME TO LATE TO GET IN, WAS MAD, IF WERE TO AWAY FROM HOME SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN VIP FOR $25 LIKE ME. HHHHHELLLLAAAAAA!!!!!!!!

http://ncdp.org/gop_house_of_horror

Real HAUNTED HOMES

Thats a great list and I'm sure they are all scary, but I prefer the real hauntings and the real murder and ghostly stories. I found a great list for this Halloween. While the rest of you are waiting in line for cheap scares I'll be out looking for real ghosts and things that are really scary....(oh yeah here's my list if you want to see it http://www.housefront.com/Properties/Haunted.aspx)

Sorry about your experience @ NW

I'm sorry to hear about the problems you had at NetherWorld. Unfortunatly they have to herd you through the house, literally thousands of guest going thru with in a matter or 5 to 6 hours. YOu want to beat the crowds and take more time going thru? Come earlier in the season. They are open the Last 2 weekends in Sept and EveryDay in Oct. NetherWorld is one of the best.
